Sky Sport reporter: Liverpool are 'seriously working' to make expensive January signing

Liverpool are accelerating their efforts to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth ahead of the January transfer window, with concrete discussions already taking place between the two clubs, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian winger, who has been one of Bournemouth’s best players this season, has drawn the attention of several Premier League giants following a string of explosive performances.

Liverpool are believed to be seriously working on a deal, fully aware of the €70 million (£60 million) release clause in Semenyo’s contract that becomes active in the winter window.

Semenyo has been instrumental under Andoni Iraola, showing his goal scoring quality and his pace for the Premier League side.

His versatility, being equally effective on either flank or as a second striker, has made him one of the most sought-after attackers in England.

The wide attacker has scored six goals and provided three assists in 12 appearances for Bournemouth this season.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that Liverpool manager Arne Slot has personally endorsed the move, viewing Semenyo as an ideal fit for his team.

With Liverpool struggling this season and falling down to the bottom half of the Premier League table, the calls for new signings have increased.

Despite the defending Premier League champions spending big in the summer transfer window, on players like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and others, their disastrous form this season is set to force the club to enter the transfer market once again to make changes to the squad.

The wide attacking position lacks quality and depth, particularly after the departure of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich in the summer and that is why a player like Semenyo is being targeted by the Merseyside club.

However, Liverpool are not alone in the race. Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are also tracking the Ghana international, while Bayern Munich, who had been previously linked, are understood to have withdrawn from the pursuit.

Semenyo’s contract with Bournemouth runs until 2030, giving the Cherries a strong negotiating position.

Despite Liverpool’s growing confidence, it will likely take a significant offer to persuade Bournemouth to part ways with their prized asset midway through the season.
