Nathan Lane, Laurie Metcalf to Star in Scott Rudins Death of a Salesman on Broadway

AdminBy AdminDecember 1, 2025Updated:December 1, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Death of a Salesman will return to Broadway this spring starring Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.

This marks the second Broadway play produced by Scott Rudin and Barry Diller, since Rudin left the industry in the wake of a Hollywood Reporter story about workplace bullying. The revival will be directed by Joe Mantello.Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) will star as Biff Loman and Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age) will star as Happy Loman to Lane’s Willy Loman and Metcalf’s Linda Loman.

The play is set for a 14-week run at the Winter Garden Theatre, a larger theater for plays with 1,600 seats and recent home to Clooney’s Goodnight, and Good Luck, starting March 6, ahead of an April 9 opening. Metcalf currently stars in Rudin’s Little Bear Ridge Road, directed by Mantello, which is running at the Booth Theatre on Broadway until Feb. 15.

The Arthur Miller play first premiered on Broadway in 1949 and was recently revived during the 2022-2023 season, starring Wendell Pierce and Sharon D. Clarke.

“In 1995 while rehearsing a Terrence McNally play with Joe, he turned to me one afternoon out of the blue and quietly said, ‘Someday you and I are going to do Death of a Salesman.’ And true to his word, 30 years later, that day has come. I couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to follow in the footsteps of so many great actors in tackling the role of Willy Loman, especially with the brilliant Laurie Metcalf by my side and the remarkable cast Joe is assembling. It’s a privilege to do what is arguably the greatest drama of the twentieth century, and like all great plays it always seems to speak to us anew each time we see it,” Nathan Lane said in a statement.

“Collaboration is everything in the theater. I am lucky to be going from one exciting project to another with Joe Mantello – and in the very same season. Joe and Nathan are longtime collaborators, and my shared history with — and deep respect for — them makes what might otherwise feel daunting feel familiar, and absolutely thrilling,” Metcalf said.
