Trolls say my council house is so nice that I should let someone poorer have it

A MUM has hit back after trolls slammed her house for being too nice.

The mum-of-four, called Louise, took to social media to show off her stunning council house, but some people thought she should let someone poorer have her home.

In the clip, Louise showed off her carefully curated home room by room, explaining how she hunted for the best bargains using Facebook Marketplace and shopping the sales.

For example, instead of forking out an eye-watering £3,000, but Louise managed to find it on Facebook Marketplace, where she paid just £200.

She even managed to slash the cost of the cushions by waiting until they were reduced in Homebase‘s closing down sale.

The mum even laid the kitchen floor herself, as well as the backsplash tiles.

But despite her savvy money-saving methods, after showing off her home, some thought it was too nice.

“Wow! If you can afford all those furnishings you don’t need a council house,” one person fumed in the comment section of the clip.

But Louise hit back and once again explained how she bought the cheapest versions of most things by purchasing them second hand.

The mum also explained that just because she works doesn’t mean she can afford a mortgage and to rent a non-council property.

“A lot of people who are in council properties do work and do have a decent income but can’t afford to have a mortgage,” the mum explained.

Louise acknowledged that her home was maybe better than others, but only because she thought it was important for her kids to have a nice place to live.

“I’ve been clever with my budgeting and the things I’ve done [to the house] and I haven’t paid anyone to come and do jobs in the house, I’ve YouTubed and Googled and got on with it,” the mum said.

Luckily, plenty of people leapt to defend Louise after she replied to the trolls, as many urged her to ignore the haters.

“Even if you are a millionaire and still living in a council house, who cares?! Good for you,” one commented.

A second agreed: “I live in a council house, I work full time, no benefits, what’s wrong with that?”

“People think when you live in a council house you live in a dump, they tar everyone with the same brush,” someone else wrote.

And another commented: “I’m sorry you’ve had to come on here and justify yourself, it’s no one’s business.”

How to do your council house up on the cheap

  • Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
  • Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
  • For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
  • A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
  • Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards
