Leeds 3-3 Liverpool: Tanaka strikes in 96th minute as Reds struggles continue

AdminBy AdminDecember 6, 2025Updated:December 6, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Leeds United continued their high-flying form, executing a brilliant performance at Elland Road, with a dramatic late equaliser through super-sub Al Tanaka to deny Liverpool a critical win in a volatile Premier League contest.

Arne Slot’s decision to bench Mohamed Salah for a third consecutive match looked justified for most of the evening as Liverpool built what appeared to be a decisive lead.

But in stoppage time, Leeds deployed maximum urgency and overturned the script.

Liverpool take control before Leeds ignite late surge

Hugo Ekitike put Liverpool in command with a rapid second-half brace. He first punished a defensive error in the Leeds backline, then finished confidently from a Conor Bradley delivery to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion.

Leeds responded through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who converted from the penalty spot, before Anton Stach blasted home an equaliser minutes later.

Their front footing was short-lived, as Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s advantage, finishing clinically after Alexis Mac Allister’s intelligent dummy created the opening.

Tanaka’s last-gasp impact

With Liverpool closing in on a move up to fifth in the table, Leeds forced one last opportunity from a late corner.

The loose ball fell to Al Tanaka at the back post, and the substitute drove his effort into the ground and past Alisson to complete a dramatic 96th-minute comeback.

Tactical balance and final outcome

Both teams posted seven shots on target, and possession split 55-45 in Liverpool’s favour.

Liverpool drop to eighth instead of leveraging the result to climb above Everton, while Leeds emerge with a result reflective of their fight to leave the relegation zone.
