Bronx Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Shooting of Jets Player Kris Boyd

A 20-year-old Bronx man, Frederick Green, has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd. Police told CBS News that Green was arrested on Monday and faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Boyd, 29, was shot around 2:00 a.m. on 16 November outside a popular New York City restaurant after what authorities described as a confrontation with a group of strangers. He suffered critical injuries when a bullet pierced his lung and lodged in his pulmonary artery, but he was later released from hospital. ESPN reports he has since visited his teammates at the Jets’ practice facility.
According to police, Boyd was with two Jets teammates and a friend in Midtown Manhattan when the group was taunted by strangers, sparking a physical altercation. Investigators allege that Green shot Boyd twice in the abdomen before fleeing. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Green running from the scene and getting into a waiting vehicle.

Green was captured on 8 December in Buffalo, roughly 580km (360 miles) from New York City, after authorities tracked him to his girlfriend’s apartment. The US Marshals Service confirmed that a “person of interest” had been taken into custody. Officials said Green briefly looked for a way to escape when law enforcement surrounded the building but surrendered moments later. They added that he had “significantly changed his physical appearance” in an attempt to evade capture.
Boyd joined the Jets earlier this year after previous stints with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Minnesota Vikings. He has been on injured reserve since August due to a shoulder injury sustained during practice.
