Kidnap Survivor Recounts Four-Day Ordeal, Exposes Gang Operations on Enugu Highway

A young man who recently survived a kidnapping along the Ugwogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka Road in has recounted his harrowing four-day ordeal, shedding light on how criminal gangs operate along the busy highway.

In a Facebook post shared by , the victim, identified as Peter, said he was abducted at about 5pm on November 29, 2025, close to the final police checkpoint before Ugwogo Roundabout while travelling from Nsukka to Enugu.

Peter explained that the attack began without warning when gunmen opened fire from both ends of the road, causing vehicles to collide in the chaos. He said he ran into the bush to escape but was eventually caught near a Scripture Union building close to Camp of Grace.

Recalling the moment of capture, Peter said a gun was pointed at him and he was ordered to lie face down, leaving him with no choice but to submit. He was then forced to join other abductees as they trekked through bushes and farmlands, a movement he described as a “four-day nomadic lifestyle.”

According to him, the gang consisted of about 11 armed men carrying AK-47 rifles and other weapons. He described their leader as a medium-built man with a commanding voice who coordinated the group’s operations and communicated fluently in English, Pidgin, Fulfulde and Igbo.

Peter said the kidnappers kept moving constantly to evade security forces, fed their captives just once daily, and compelled them to carry supplies. While in captivity, he claimed the gang carried out at least two additional attacks on the same road, bringing in more victims.

He advised motorists to avoid the route in the late afternoon and evening, noting that travel between 9am and 1pm appears relatively safer. He also urged families of abducted victims to remain calm during ransom negotiations.

After regaining his freedom, Peter expressed gratitude to God and to those who supported him, as his account has once again drawn attention to growing concerns over insecurity on highways across Enugu State.
