Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin Sparks Reactions as He Buries Mother in Alleged ₦150m Gold-Plated Casket
Popular Nigerian cleric has laid his mother, Mama Asetu, to rest in a gold-plated casket said to be worth about ₦150 million.
Mama Asetu reportedly passed away in May 2025 at the age of 104, with her burial ceremony held months later in December. Footage circulating online from the event shows the gleaming gold-coloured casket in which she was interred.
The atmosphere at the ceremony was solemn as the late matriarch was committed to the earth following the funeral service. However, attention quickly shifted online to the extravagant casket, which many claim cost tens of millions of naira. Some reports even suggested the price exceeded ₦100 million.
Social media blog @metronaija wrote:
“Prophet Jeremiah buried his late mother, Mama Asetu, in a gold casket worth over ₦150 million. She was laid to rest in her hometown, Aleibiri, Bayelsa State, on Friday, December 12, 2025. She died at the ripe age of 104.”
The burial has since sparked heated debate on social media, with users questioning the authenticity and value of the casket.
Reacting, @femtoba commented: “At that price point, it is almost certainly gold-bonded, gold-plated, gold-coated, or fake. Even 9-karat gold would cost far more than that.”
