Egypt vs Nigeria: Onuachu leads Super Eagles attack, Awaziem captain

AdminBy AdminDecember 16, 2025Updated:December 16, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has named Paul Onuachu in the starting XI for Tuesday evening’s international friendly against Egypt, with Victor Osimhen absent after failing to arrive in camp on time.

The Super Eagles will line up with Stanley Nwabali in goal, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, Zaidu Sanusi, Igho Ogbu and Chidozie Awaziem form the defensive unit, with Awaziem handed the captain’s armband.

In midfield, Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro are tasked with providing balance and control, as Chelle continues to assess options ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Onuachu gets nod as Osimhen absent

Up front, Onuachu is given the responsibility of leading the line in Osimhen’s absence, with Chidera Ejuke and Onyedika Nwadike providing support in attack.

Osimhen is still expected to join the squad later as Nigeria’s AFCON preparations continue.

The bench includes Francis Uzoho, Amas Obasogie, Wilfred Ndidi, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Cyril Dessers, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Akor Adams, Bruno Onyemaechi, Muhammed Usman, Salim Lawal, Ryan Alebiosu and Tochukwu Nnadi.

Final tune-up before AFCON

The friendly offers Chelle an opportunity to test fringe and newly invited players as Nigeria intensify preparations for AFCON 2025, where the Super Eagles will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM, with both teams expected to make multiple substitutions as part of their tournament build-up.
