Ogun govt promotes graduate primary school teachers to grade level 17

AdminBy AdminDecember 18, 2025Updated:December 18, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has approved the career advancement of graduate primary school teachers under the Tutor Cadre from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday by the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.

According to Governor Abiodun, the approval is a strategic move aimed at eliminating long-standing career stagnation at the peak of the primary school teaching cadre and significantly boosting staff morale across the state’s education system.

Beyond the grade level advancement, the governor also approved a consolidated salary structure for the position of head-teacher general.

The policy is designed to elevate their professional status and ensure that school leaders are properly compensated and motivated to provide effective administrative oversight.

He explained that the reforms followed a comprehensive review of existing career progression frameworks, noting that the ultimate objective is to improve learning outcomes by ensuring teachers are well-supported and motivated.

The Head of Service further linked the development to the ISEYA pillar of the Abiodun administration, which focuses on infrastructure, social welfare and wellbeing, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture.

By implementing these upgrades, the administration aims to reinforce Ogun State’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading education hub.

“This move reinforces the state’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and supporting its workforce,” the governor stated.

Governor Abiodun also directed the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board to commence immediate implementation of the new grade levels and salary adjustments.

While urging teachers to remain committed to efficient service delivery, he reiterated the administration’s dedication to progressive policies that prioritize human capital development and quality governance.
