A MEDICATION change left Nick Reiner “erratic and dangerous” in the weeks before his parents were killed, a report claims.
Reiner had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and his behavior turned increasingly “alarming” as doctors tried to get his treatment right.
Two sources with direct knowledge told TMZ that Reiner was under the care of a psychiatrist for mental illness.
The outlet reports the concerns built up over the month before the killings of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
Reiner had recently received care at a Los Angeles-based rehab facility that focuses on mental illness and substance abuse.
The facility is described as an option used by wealthy families seeking intensive help for struggling relatives.
FATHER’S TERROR
Rob Reiner’s haunting last words about son Nick hours before being murdered
The program costs $70,000 a month.
In the months leading up to the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele, Reiner’s conduct had become “alarming.”
The situation escalated three to four weeks before the murders when the doctors changed his medications.
After the switch, Reiner became even more unstable, the report claims.
Doctors were attempting to adjust the prescriptions so he would stabilize, but the effort wasn’t working.
“Nick was out of his head,” a source told the outlet, and his substance abuse worsened his condition.
According to the latest report, Reiner is not reeling in grief, but is “in a fog,” which the source linked to his medical condition and meds he is taking.
Reiner is currently “calm” “cognizant” and “dazed,” saying he is nowhere close to processing the deaths.

‘Petrified’ Warning at Holiday Party
Rob had reportedly confided to friends that he was scared of his own son, just hours before the Hollywood legend and his wife were found dead.
“I’m petrified of him,” Rob told his friends.
“I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I’m afraid of my own son. I think my own son can hurt me.”
The chilling remarks were said to have been made at a celebrity holiday party the night before the killings, according to multiple reports.
The Reiners had attended a Saturday night holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien, where Nick was described by sources as acting erratically and alarming other guests.
Reports say Nick had a tense exchange with actor Bill Hader during the event.
One representative has denied that Rob made the fear-filled comments at the party, according to reports.
What Happened at Conan O’Brien’s Party?
Multiple attendees at the O’Brien’s party told the Daily Mail they saw Rob and Michele locked in a heated argument with their son Nick.
One source familiar with the party told the outlet the fight escalated to the point someone suggested calling police to step in.
“They got in an argument, the father and son. It got so bad and loud someone wanted to call the police to report it,” the insider claimed.
The source said O’Brien intervened before anyone phoned 911.
“But Conan stepped in and said, ‘it’s my house, my party, I’m not calling the police.’ He talked them out of calling the police.”
A second source backed the account, saying guests were worried about Nick’s mental state.
“When the s**t was hitting the fan, somebody said we need to call the police. The conversation was about getting this kid put into a mental-health hold,” the source told the Daily Mail.
The insider said O’Brien refused because he didn’t want law enforcement showing up.
“Conan O’Brien stepped in and said, ‘no, I don’t want the police at my house’.”
“It makes sense; who wants the cops showing up creating a scene?” the source added.
“But the argument between Rob and Nick was pretty intense.”
The Los Angeles Police Department also told the outlet there were no 911 calls from O’Brien’s house that night.
Arrests, Court, and Possible Death Penalty
Investigators say Nick checked into a Santa Monica hotel after the alleged killings.
Video obtained by ABC appears to show him buying a drink at a gas station near USC shortly before he was arrested on Sunday night.
On Wednesday, Reiner made a brief court appearance wearing a suicide vest and handcuffs.
His attorney, Alan Jackson, waived his right to a speedy arraignment, which is now set for January 7.
LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman on Tuesday said the case carries a possible maximum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty, though prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek it.
