A POPULAR bar chain backed by England cricket heroes has crashed into administration – putting dozens of venues on alert.
Sixes runs 16 venues across England – but one site has already been shut with more closures feared as bosses scramble to save the rest.
Administrators from FRP Advisory were called in on Wednesday and immediately confirmed the Southampton venue will close its doors.
However, fans have been told the remaining bars will stay open for now while rescue talks are held, with future bookings – including over Christmas – still being honoured.
The chain was launched in 2020 by Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh and rode the boom in “competitive socialising”, taking on rivals like Flight Club and Junkyard Golf.
In 2023, Sixes secured fresh cash from 4Cast Investment Group – whose backers include England internationals Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad.
But despite a core of strong-performing sites, others have struggled amid fierce competition and squeezed consumer spending.
Tony Wright, joint administrator at FRP, said the brand still had “significant potential” and revealed there is already interest from buyers keen to snap up its best venues.
He added that the priority is to secure the best outcome for the business while keeping doors open for customers through the festive period and beyond.
