A HUGE fire has broken out at a warehouse near a major shopping centre in Sheffield.
Firefighters are on the scene to fight the inferno on Meadowhall Road, after being alerted to a blaze around 5.45pm.
Explosions and balls of flames have been seen coming from the site, nearby to the popular indoor shopping centre Meadowhall.
Local authorities have advised people to keep their windows and doors closed if they live in the area.
Meadowhall Road is currently closed to traffic between Meadowhall Interchange and Amos Road.
A fire service spokesperson said: “The fire is causing a large plume of smoke in the area.”

“Please stay away from the area whilst we carry out our work.”
10 fire engines and two turntable ladders are on scene, a spokesperson for Sheffield Fire and Rescuesaid.
Firefighters have managed to contain the fire but are expected to remain on scene until at least midnight.
There are currently no reports of any injuries.
National Rail warned there would be ongoing disruptions to services following the outbreak of the fire.
Southbound trains are blocked.
Trains running between Wakefield Westgate / Wakefield Kirkgate / Doncaster / Barnsley and Sheffield may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
Bus services that use Meadowhall Road in both directions between the bottom of Jenkin Road and Meadowhall Interchange have been halted until further notice.
Shoppers at Meadowhall reported smelling smoke on Friday afternoon.
A security guard assured customers the fire was at the nearby industrial estate amid rumours the roof of the mall was on fire.
Meadowhall is the largest shopping centre in Yorkshire, and the 12th largest in the UK.
The giantshoppingcentre spanning 1.4million square feet is co-owned by property company British Land and Norwegian sovereign wealth fund Norges.
It lies three miles north-east of Sheffield city centre and was developed on the site of a former steelworks on the outskirts of the city.
It was opened in 1990, taking architectural inspiration fromPlace d’Orléansshopping centre inOttawa,Canada.
The mall, with over 290 stores, attracts approximately 30 million visitors a year.
In 2024, British Land sold its stake in the complex for an eyewatering £360 million.
