GARY NEVILLE said the writing was on the wall for Ruben Amorim as soon as he started firing shots at the top brass.

And the Old Trafford legend said Manchester United should “never change their way” for any manager.

Amorim was sacked on Monday morning after he called out the club’s hierarchy to “do their job” and let him be manager during his bombshell outburst at Elland Road.

United shot down claims of a power struggle but pointed to the squad’s lack of progress under Amorim, who became irritable in internal meetings when questions were asked of his formation.

Neville said: “Some of the press conferences we have seen, it usually ends one way.

“Amorim has decided he doesn’t feel supported or happy, he has called it on and decided to unleash and be emotional.

Premier League – Next Manager sacked betting odds: Who will be next to leave?

“When you turn on your bosses, you’re not going to keep your job very long.

“Some of the performances in the last month have been shocking. He could have handled his press conference better, but Wolves was the killer game.

“I’m stunned they have continued to play so poorly in a back three system. That’s a failing upon the manager on the players and the club in terms of not recruiting properly.”

Neville added:“I don’t believe Manchester United should change for anybody – Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Erik ten Hag and Amorim are fantastic managers.

“They have all come in with different styles of play and none of them fit the United way.

“They need to hire someone who will play fast, aggressive and entertaining football. It’s as simple as that. Ajax would never change for anybody. Barcelona would never change for anybody.”

Ruben Amorim SACKED

Gary Neville reveals 'killer' moment that sealed Ruben Amorim's fate at Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has been SACKED as manager of Manchester United!

The Portuguese boss has been involved in a war of words with the club hierarchy in recent days, hitting out at transfer policy and his postition as ‘coach’ rather than ‘manager’.

Now he is gone – with the likes of Gareth Southgate and Enzo Maresca among the favourites to take over at Old Trafford.

Man Utd currently sit sixth in the table but Amorim hardly set the world alight at the club.

In fact, he leaves with the WORST win rate in the Premier League of any permanent boss – just 31.9 per cent.

Here’s the top stories…

Amorim was bullish about not ditching his beloved back three and reverted back to that doomed formation in the disappointing draws against Wolves and Leeds.

He had beaten Newcastle with a back four system, the first and only time the Portuguese deployed it in his 14 months in charge.

Amorim and club chiefs were also locked in a transfer stand-off after the hierarchy were not willing to bring in major reinforcements this month, with the former head coach cryptically revealing his frustrations in press conferences.
