AFCON 2025: Ademola Lookman speaks on on-field confrontation with Victor Osimhen

AdminBy AdminJanuary 6, 2026Updated:January 6, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

Ademola Lookman has played down suggestions of tension with Victor Osimhen after a brief on-pitch exchange during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Nigeria and Mozambique.

The incident, which occurred during a recent AFCON match, sparked speculation among fans and commentators about possible discord within the Super Eagles squad.

Lookman dismisses rumours

Speaking after the game, Lookman described the tournament experience as positive and progressive for the team.

“It’s been great, team is improving every single day. I scored goals today,” he said, reflecting on both his contribution and the squad’s development.

When asked whether he had spoken with Osimhen following the exchange, Lookman gave a simple response.

“No, I haven’t seen him yet.”

‘Nothing happened on the pitch’

The Atalanta forward was clear in explaining that the moment had been misinterpreted by observers.

“Nothing happened. We were just discussing on the pitch, that’s it,” Lookman said.

Pressed further on whether addressing the exchange was important for team unity, he appeared unconcerned.

“I don’t know what the big issue is.”

Focus shifts to next challenge

Looking ahead, Lookman stressed that the squad remains fully focused on the challenges ahead in the tournament.

“The finals of the game is something to look forward. Another big battle awaits us, we need to be ready,” he said.

Nigeria continue their AFCON journey with growing confidence, as the team aims to maintain unity and momentum heading into the decisive stages of the competition.
