Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, has hailed Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory against Mozambique in Fès on Monday, calling it a strong statement of intent at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Victor Osimhen marked his 50th senior cap with a brace, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams added one goal each, sealing Nigeria’s place in the tournament quarter-finals.

Chelle praises Super Eagles’ dominant display but warns against complacency

The performance was marked by sharp attacking play, precise teamwork, and effective finishing.

“I’m pleased with the team’s display. Scoring four goals is significant, but we must remember this is only one match,” Chelle told reporters.

He praised the squad for their discipline and commitment, while cautioning against overconfidence. “The work continues. We must stay focused and maintain our intensity,” he added.

Nigeria sets sights on quarter-final clash with Algeria or DR Congo

The coach also outlined preparations for the next stage. “We’ll travel to Marrakech on Wednesday to prepare for a tough quarter-final clash against the winner of Algeria and DR Congo,” Chelle said.

Emphasising team unity, Chelle noted that all internal matters would remain private. “My responsibility is to keep the players concentrated and disciplined. Success starts with focus and consistency,” he said.

With this win, Nigeria advances to the quarter-finals, keeping its ambitions of lifting the AFCON trophy alive.
