Why are people this wicked and full of jealousy? — Lady recounts her ordeal with a shop owner

GistReel

A Nigerian lady has sparked online discussion after sharing an uncomfortable experience with a neighbourhood water seller, raising fresh conversations about entitlement, jealousy, and customer choice in local communities.

The lady narrated how a simple decision to buy sachet water from another shop turned into a heated confrontation, which she described as unnecessary and upsetting.

Confrontation Over Where to Buy Water

According to her post on X, the incident happened when she crossed the street to buy water and was stopped by a woman who owns a nearby shop.

The shop owner questioned her choice and accused her of avoiding a “sister” to patronise another Yoruba woman instead.

The lady said she became angry and warned the woman never to call her again over such issues, noting that it was the third time it happened.

She explained that she sometimes buys from the shop but avoids it because the items are often dirty and expensive.

She added that she prefers the neighbouring shop because the sellers are friendly, clean, and never pressure customers about where to buy.

Strong Words and Personal Frustration

In her post, she compared the woman’s behaviour to someone standing guard like an investigator, watching customers closely.

She ended her narration with a harsh remark, blaming jealousy and bitterness for the woman’s actions.

Mixed Reactions From Social Media Users

The post quickly attracted attention, with many users sharing similar experiences and opinions about market behaviour.

Esperanza said: “It’s wild how some people think they’re entitled to your money just because they’re “neighborhood sisters. Entitlement and bad vibes will drive customers away every single time.

“If your shop is dirty and your attitude is worse, don’t get mad when people walk across the street for better service. Peace and clean water over drama any day.”

Aniwhite wrote: “You just provoked short people now. I’m not short but I feel for them. I buy something from where my spirit accepts even if your shop block my road, I will find way and pass.”

Oma commented: “Such people will never make sells, because they are always envious of people. Always looking out to see who is doing better than them. When you focus on your business, people will naturally come to you.”

IAmgeezy added: “Be careful with these kind of people, they can bewitch you. Those people don’t care whose ox is gored. I dey face one for my street like dis.”

Victoria wrote: “Market people are the worst, they’ll instruct you not to buy from certain people in the market. And I’m like,On top my money!”
