Leeds vs Arsenal preview

Premier League leaders Arsenal can apply early pressure on their closest challengers when they visit Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners are first up among the title contenders and, with victory, could restore their seven-point advantage before Manchester City and Aston Villa take to the pitch on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta will be demanding a strong response following last week’s 3-2 home defeat to Manchester United – Arsenal’s first loss at the Emirates this season and just their third in the league after 23 matches.

There has been some suggestion that nerves are creeping in as the title race enters its final stretch.

But Arteta revealed he held a meeting with his players after the defeat to “bring the temperature down”, urging supporters to ‘jump on the fun boat’ because “beautiful” things lie ahead.

Those beautiful things could begin at Elland Road, especially judging by recent meetings. Arsenal have won their last six league games against Leeds by an aggregate score of 20-5 and have scored four or more goals in eight different Premier League clashes – including the 5-0 win in August’s reverse fixture.

There’s also history firmly against the hosts. Leeds have never won a Premier League home game against the team starting the day top of the table (D7 L7).

That said, Leeds may feel this is as good a time as any to end that run. Daniel Farke’s side are unbeaten in their last five home league matches and have lost just one of their last ten overall, edging six points clear of the relegation zone.

Leeds vs Arsenal preview betting tips and predictions

Arsenal win & BTTS

We’re backing Arsenal to win with both teams finding the net, available at 5/2 with Betfair.

As outlined above, Arsenal boast a dominant recent record in this fixture, winning their last six league meetings with Leeds by an aggregate score of 20-5, and have won six of their last seven away games overall (netting 2+ in four of those). Leeds, meanwhile, have never won a Premier League home match against a side starting the day top of the table.

That said, the hosts are well capable of scoring.

Daniel Farke’s side have failed to score just once in their last 14 matches in all competitions and rank ninth for expected goals across the last four league games – higher than Arsenal in that period. The Gunners have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches, and shipped two against UCL minnows FC Kairat midweek.

Goalscorer

We’re also backing Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres to continue his fine run, available at 6/5 to score anytime.

The 27-year-old is enjoying some of his best form in an Arsenal shirt, netting three times in his last five appearances – with two of those goals coming away from the Emirates. He should also have fond memories of this fixture, having scored both his first and second goals for the club in the 5-0 rout earlier this season.
