Atalanta agree €40m Lookman deal with Fenerbahce

AdminBy AdminJanuary 31, 2026Updated:January 31, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

Atalanta have reached an agreement with Fenerbahce over the permanent transfer of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in a deal valued at up to €40 million.

The two clubs have reportedly settled on a €35 million fixed fee, with an additional €5 million tied to performance-related add-ons.

While the agreement has been reached at club level, the move is still subject to final discussions over payment structure before it is fully concluded.

Salary boost seals Turkish move

Reports from Turkey indicate that Lookman will earn an annual salary of €9 million at Fenerbahce, a significant increase on the estimated €2.3 million per year he earns at Atalanta.

The proposed four-and-a-half-year contract would make the Nigeria international one of the highest-paid players in the Turkish Super Lig.

Fenerbahce beat Galatasaray, Atletico to signature

Fenerbahce have moved ahead of rivals Galatasaray in the race for Lookman’s signature after weeks of interest.

Galatasaray had explored a deal and were reportedly encouraged by Lookman’s Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen, while Atletico Madrid were also monitoring the forward’s situation.

Summer tensions shaped Lookman’s exit

Lookman’s future at Atalanta has been uncertain since the summer transfer window.

He was close to joining Inter Milan, but talks collapsed after Atalanta rejected Inter’s €45 million offer, holding out for €50 million from a domestic rival while remaining open to lower bids from clubs outside Italy.

Inter’s withdrawal from negotiations reportedly led to tensions between the player and the club, with Lookman leaving Atalanta’s training base for two weeks without official clearance. He later returned and was reintegrated into the squad before the window closed.

Modest season by recent standards

On the pitch, Lookman has endured a quieter campaign compared to previous seasons.

He has scored three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, a notable drop from earlier campaigns in which he delivered double-digit goal returns.

If finalised, the transfer would mark the end of Lookman’s Atalanta spell and hand him a fresh start in Turkey, alongside a substantial financial upgrade, and playing against teammates – Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu.
