BREAKING: Donald Duke dumps PDP, joins ADC in Cross River

AdminBy AdminJanuary 31, 2026Updated:January 31, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

A former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as part of his continued search for a credible political platform.

Duke was registered as an ADC member in Ward 5, Calabar Municipality, where he received his membership card amid cheers from party supporters and residents.

Second Exit From PDP

This defection marks the second time the former governor has left the PDP. He had earlier defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

That move generated controversy at the time, with critics questioning his frequent party switches, while supporters defended his decision as a matter of principle.

ADC Woos Cross Riverians

Following Duke’s defection, the ADC leadership in Bakassi Local Government Area called on Cross Riverians to embrace the party, describing it as a vehicle for national rebirth.

Addressing party stakeholders after a meeting, ADC leaders said the party was ready to offer Nigerians a fresh political direction.

Criticism of APC Governance

The party leadership also criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging Nigerians to take back the country from what they described as poor governance.

In a statement issued in Calabar on Friday, the party said, “We invite our family and friends who are still undecided to join the ADC today, as the party is poised to bring about transformative change in Nigeria.”

Support for National Leaders

The statement was signed by the Bakassi Chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Asuquo, and the Secretary, Eko Boco.

They reaffirmed the chapter’s loyalty to the national leadership of the party, saying, “We express our unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of Senator David Mark, National Chairman, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary.”

The statement added, “We pledge our loyalty to all recognised organs and structures of the party at all levels as we work towards building a strong and united ADC.”
