ROGER Moore’s much-loved comedy crime series The Persuaders has been hit with a trigger alert — over the use of a starting pistol.

An episode of the early 1970s show now contains a warning to viewers that Moore and co-star Tony Curtis get into several scraps while taking on villains.

The instalment features their characters, Lord Brett Sinclair and Danny Wilde, partying in the south of France when they find a pro swimmer’s drowned body.

Their extrajudicial probe into the death takes the pair to the mansion of reclusive businessman Lanny Koestler, where they fight off gangster henchmen to identify his cheated-on wife as the mastermind behind the killing.

The episode contains two short fight scenes, including one set in the back of a car on the edge of a cliff.

The other sees Moore’s aristocratic crime-buster fight off a home invader by pushing him through a table.

But an alert now on ITVX asks viewers to consider turning on parental controls, despite the series being considered a family favourite when it first aired.

The woke alert reads: “Contains mild violence, including the use of guns. Turn on Parental controls?”

Guns appear twice in the episode – once when a starting pistol begins a jet ski surfing race between Danny and Brett.

A weapon is shown again when pal Pekoo Rayne, played by Annette Andre, is threatened by a gangster at the mansion.

Moore’s role in The Persuaders, and in his earlier detective series, The Saint, saw him land the coveted James Bond in 1973.

He played 007 in seven films until 1985, before stepping away aged 57 after starring in A View To A Kill.

ITV said: “Programming that contains potentially sensitive or distressing themes, content or language has carried appropriate warnings since our launch.

“We regularly review our catalogue to ensure the right guidance is in place for viewers.”
