An abroad-based Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after revealing that he currently has €10 left in his bank account, using his situation to describes the hidden financial struggles of people living overseas.
In a video making the rounds on social media, he boldly stated that many people abroad are not as financially stable as they appear.
In his words, he said:
“As I’m making this video, I have only 10 euros in my bank account now. In fact, so many people living in Western countries are living in minus, that is, they have overdrafts.”
According to him, it is almost impossible to find someone in Europe with €20,000 in cash sitting in their account, compared to Africa where, he claimed, some businessmen can easily provide €100,000 to €300,000 in cash if needed.
“But here in the West, nobody has that money. This is to tell you how poor most guys that are living abroad are,” he added.
His statement has since sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing that the cost of living abroad, others, however, disagreed.
One social media user wrote, “People think abroad is automatic wealth. Bills abroad will humble you fast.” Another added, “Living abroad doesn’t mean rich. It just means expensive responsibilities.”
The conversation has once again reopened the long-standing debate about the reality of “abroad life” versus the perception many people back home have about it.
