Nigerian singer and Afrobeats star, Simi, has spoken out strongly against sexual assault, urging men to confront inappropriate behaviour among their peers.
The artiste highlighted the alarming frequency of abuse women face, emphasising that silence or complicity only perpetuates the problem.
In a passionate post on X (formerly Twitter), Simi explained that many men create “safe spaces” for friends who engage in abusive acts, choosing loyalty over accountability.
She condemned this culture, stressing that defending survivors and addressing misconduct should take priority.
Men must be accountable
Simi directly challenged men to reflect on their behaviour, writing that those who feel “triggered” by allegations must examine why they are defensive if they are not guilty.
She urged men to actively call out friends who harass or assault women, noting that women are increasingly afraid for their safety both outdoors and within their homes.
Her post also acknowledged that while false accusations exist, they are not the main concern; the real issue is preventing abuse and supporting victims. “Stop enabling behaviour that terrorises women,” she wrote.
