Three House of Representatives members have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They announced their defection during the plenary on Wednesday, March 11.
Tajudeen Abbas, the speaker of the house, announced the development during the plenary. He also rolled out the names of the lawmakers and their constituencies.

The lawmakers are Mohammed Audu, representing Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola federal constituency of Taraba State; Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing Dukku/Nafada federal constituency of Gombe State; and Inuwa Garuba, representing Yamaltu/Deba federal constituency of Gombe State.

The video of the declaration of their defection has started generating reactions from Nigerians. Below are some of their reactions:
Masterpiece said it is over for the PDP:
“Honestly, it’s finally over for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the All Progressive Congress (APC) has finally recolonised all the members of the PDP from the Governors down to the senators to the House of Assembly, Reps and even Local Government Chairmen. What APC cannot do under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not exist.”
Alde expressed worries about the defection:
“Another set of defection? I don’t really understand this defection of a thing. Why do many expect ADC to be gaining more members from the existing parties like APC and PDP? The opposite is the case. This is why in politics, 1+1 may not be 2.”
Aproko Units said it strengthened the ruling party:
“These defections could further strengthen the numbers of the All Progressives Congress in the House, while raising questions about the internal stability of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Oluwatobiloba Daniel recalled the glory days of the PDP:
“The same PDP that worked to destroy AD in 2003, AC in 2007, has now been relegated (not buried) by the same man PDP did everything to bring down, but God passed them.”
Olusegun Nelson reflected on the defection of the politicians:
“If you are among those who believe that Tinubu is paying these people to join the APC, then you’re not different from those who also believed that Buhari was cloned. Clueless at best.”
Alaka Tunde commented:
“Defections have almost become routine in Nigerian politics. But a healthy democracy needs a strong and vibrant opposition. When movements like this keep happening, the ruling party gets a free hand with little scrutiny of its policies, and democracy is weakened for it. This is not even the fault of the party in power, but of selfish politicians who put personal interest above the system.”

Senator Dickson dumps PDP
Legit.ng earlier reported that the PDP has experienced another setback as former governor and influential Senator Seriake Dickson dumped the party.

Dickson, who was a two-term governor of Bayelsa state, lamented that the PDP has lost its glory and announced a new political platform.
The new party, which Dickson joined, is expected to rival the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.
