A viral video circulating on social media has sparked heated debate after a lady described marriage as a form of “sex work,” drawing strong criticism and mixed reactions from many online users.
In the video, which has been widely shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady argued that marriage often involves an exchange of roles between partners, particularly when financial support and domestic responsibilities are involved.
Controversial Statement on Marriage
While speaking in the clip, the woman said: “And this going to be very controversial to say marriage also is a sex work because a lot of women what they’re doing is women engage in marriage from a place where he’s going to, ideally, he’s going to take care of you financially and there’s a home for you both to live in.”
She further explained that in many relationships, women take on specific responsibilities within the household.
“What you are doing is you’re fulfilling a role. So you’re going to either be some sort of like homemaker home keeper.”
According to her, these responsibilities can include raising children, managing the home, and supporting the family.
“You’re raising and rearing the kids. You are parenting with him and sleeping with him in the hope that the trade off will be that you get validation, love and upkeep.”
She added that the arrangement continues to work as long as both partners fulfil their expected roles.
“And the man understands and believes that if he continues to fulfil that role for you, then, the arrangement works, because marriage is an arrangement.”
Explaining why she compared marriage to prostitution, the woman said the exchange may not always appear openly transactional.
“Why I said it’s prostitution is because whilst it’s not necessarily on the surface you’re fucking for a transactional exchange. There’s something that you’re fucking for.”
