22 year old critically ill after attempting to swallowing a whole burger without chewing it

AdminBy AdminNovember 14, 2025Updated:November 14, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

A 22 year old young man is fighting for his life after swallowing an entire burger in one bite while dining with friends at a local restaurant, authorities and hospital officials said.

Life-threatening stunt goes wrong

The incident occurred on Thursday, 13 November, and the man was rushed to the intensive care unit of G. Gennimatas Hospital, where he remains on a ventilator.

Doctors warned that the stunt caused severe damage to vital organs, putting his life at risk.

One of the friends who witnessed the incident described the terrifying moments.

“He started panicking and kept moving back and forth. At one point, he was hitting his back against a post, trying to get the food out,” the friend said. “We thought it was a joke at first, but it quickly became clear something was seriously wrong.”

Doctors battle to stabilise patient

Michalis Giannakos, President of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers, expressed concern over the man’s condition.

“He is in critical condition and requires immediate medical intervention. Prolonged lack of oxygen could result in permanent brain damage,” he said.

Matina Pagoni, former president of the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Doctors Association, said: “A simple act meant for fun has escalated into a life-threatening situation affecting his brain, kidneys, and other organs. This is truly tragic.”

Police authorities confirmed they are reviewing security footage from the restaurant to determine if anyone encouraged the dangerous act.

The incident has sparked warnings from medical experts about the dangers of risky eating behaviours and the importance of prompt treatment in emergencies.
