A former bank teller has shared a troubling experience about how a woman almost fell victim to an online scam after believing she had won ₦30 million.
In a post on X, the man recalled that while working at the bank, a woman and her daughter came to deposit ₦100,000, insisting the transaction was urgent.
After he processed it and issued a receipt, she returned about 30 minutes later with another ₦100,000, again saying it was urgent.
About an hour later, the woman came back once more with another ₦100,000 and attempted to skip the queue to make the deposit.
The repeated transactions raised suspicion, prompting the teller to stop her and ask what the money was meant for, warning that he would not process the deposit unless she explained.
At first, the woman reportedly tried to avoid the question, but her daughter eventually revealed the truth: the woman had received an email claiming she had won ₦30 million, and she was asked to keep sending money to “clear” the supposed prize.
According to the teller, the woman had been borrowing money from different places to continue sending the payments.
He added that the woman was a school teacher, noting that even educated people can fall for scams when emotions and expectations cloud their judgment.
