Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United hasn’t exactly gone well.
After arriving with massive expectations, the 30-year-old goalkeeper eventually found himself shipped out on loan to Turkish Süper Lig outfit Trabzonspor for the 2025/26 campaign.
However, a change of scenery seems to have worked absolute wonders.
Following a truly outrageous performance in the Turkish Cup, Onana is suddenly a man in massive demand, and the Trabzonspor hierarchy is reportedly desperate to keep him around on a permanent basis.
After a grinding, incredibly tense match finished 0-0 following 120 minutes of grueling action, the tie went to a dreaded penalty shootout.

That is when Onana completely took over the show during their recent quarter-final clash against Samsunspor.
The Cameroonian international put on an absolute goalkeeping clinic, incredibly saving three consecutive penalties from Lubomir Satka, Marius Mouandilmadji, and Yunus Emre Cift.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan is now looking to keep the goalkeeper beyond this season and he is ready to open talks with Man United, according to The Athletic.
The main hurdle in these upcoming talks, of course, will be the finances.
Man United will naturally want to recoup as much of their original £47.2 million transfer fee as possible.
However, thanks to Turkey’s highly advantageous tax laws for professional athletes, Trabzonspor might actually be able to match Onana’s wage demands even if they technically offer a lower gross salary.
Man United have done well without Onana
Man United already seem to be completely moving on, especially with 23-year-old Senne Lammens stepping up brilliantly to command the number one shirt at Old Trafford this season.
If Trabzonspor can successfully negotiate a reasonable transfer fee, this could be the absolute perfect escape route for everyone involved.
United absolutely need to capitalise on this sudden wave of Turkish hype and officially cut their losses.
The Onana experiment at Old Trafford simply didn’t work out, and sometimes you just have to accept that reality.
Dragging him back to Manchester this summer just to sit on the bench behind an in-form Lammens makes absolutely zero tactical or financial sense.
