Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed readiness to serve as running mate to Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he spoke about ongoing political alignments within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the former governor, he would gladly work with Obi if the party decides to field the former Labour Party presidential candidate as its flag bearer for the 2027 election.
Kwankwaso stated that both leaders have already reached an understanding on the need to jointly confront insecurity across the country, stressing that restoring peace and stability remains a top priority.
“We have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” he said.
Speaking further, Kwankwaso said he would not hesitate to accept the vice-presidential position if entrusted with the role by the party leadership.
“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he stated.
The former Kano governor also praised what he described as the strength of a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, insisting that the combination would be difficult for opponents to match.
“Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country,” he added.
The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Earlier this month, both Kwankwaso and Obi reportedly joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (ADC) after previously being associated with the African Democratic Congress (NDC).
