Stop playing tribal politics — Man warns against ethnic blame amid insecurity concerns

A man has sparked reactions online after blaming rising ethnic tensions and insecurity in parts of Lagos and Ogun states on political divisions linked to the 2023 presidential election.

Rising tension over insecurity in Lagos and Ogun

In a viral statement circulated on Tuesday, the speaker alleged that suspected Fulani herders were causing disturbances in parts of Ogun State and had also entered Ikorodu in Lagos State, creating fear among residents.

However, he argued that political actors were redirecting public anger toward the Igbo community because of the growing influence of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Peter Obi’s Lagos victory referenced

According to him, Obi’s performance during the 2023 election remains a major reason for the tension.

He claimed that the former Anambra State governor became “a political threat and nightmare” to President Bola Tinubu after defeating the ruling party in Lagos during the presidential poll.

“While people are dying, we are busy playing politics and tribal cards. They say burial rice is sweet until it is cooked in your own house,” he said.

He further warned Nigerians against promoting ethnic division for political gain. “Keep playing politics with tribe at your own peril,” the statement added.

The comments have continued to generate debate online, especially as insecurity concerns grow in parts of the South-West.

In 2023, ethnic tensions also increased after the presidential election, particularly in Lagos, where several voters reported intimidation and tribal-related attacks during the polls.
