ASPSF single dad and mom, workers share what Veterans Day means to them

In honor of Veterans Day, Arkansas Single Father or mother Scholarship Fund acknowledges all of the army servicemen and ladies who’ve sacrificed a lot for our nation. You’ve got our honest appreciation and gratitude.

We’re particularly pleased with the various ASPSF scholarship recipients, workers members, board members, volunteers, and their members of the family who’ve served or are actively serving. We invited a few of them to share their experiences and inform us what Veterans Day means to them.  Learn the responses under! 

Will Brock

ASPSF Fall 2022 Scholarship Recipient
Learning Psychology at Central Baptist School in Conway
Navy Department: U.S. Marine Corps

Will joined after the 9/11 assaults, wanting to assist cease terrorism. He served within the 6th Motor Transport Battalion in Texarkana, Texas, from 2003-2007 in addition to at Camp Pendleton in California.

“Veterans Day is particular to me as a result of it’s a probability to honor my fallen brothers and sisters,” Will stated.

Amy Renee Dorey

Navy Department: U.S. Air Nationwide Guard and Reserves

From 1996-2004, Amy was based mostly in Arkansas Air Nationwide Guard’s 188th Wing in Fort Smith, and from 2004-2008, she was at Patrick House Drive Base in Cocoa Seashore, Florida. She was a provide technician, cook dinner, and administrative assistant.

“Each my dad and mom have been army, and whereas rising up, I needed to serve identical to they did,” Amy stated. “A veteran is an individual who devoted part of them or their life to defending our nation and our individuals.”

Arlene Inexperienced

Navy Department: U.S. Navy

Arlene joined in 1986 and was honorably discharged in 1994. She served as a Hospital Corpsman as a part of a Fleet Hospital unit, which was hooked up to a Marine battalion. Enlisted throughout Desert Storm, Arlene didn’t go abroad. Lots of her members of the family are veterans, too.

“My Grandma Inexperienced had 5 sons in 5 totally different international locations in the course of the Korean battle,” Arlene stated. “All of them got here house safely. My cousin Jason served in World Conflict II, and my great-uncle died in World Conflict II. All of these guys are true veterans to me.”

Tammy Ellis

ASPSF Finance Supervisor
Navy Department: Husband, Jeff Ellis, U.S. Military and Military Reserves; Son Craig: U.S. Military

Tammy’s husband, Jeff, joined the U.S. Military Reserves after highschool and went into energetic responsibility after 9/11. He was a fight engineer and went abroad to Iraq and served stateside. Her son, Craig, adopted his father’s instance, becoming a member of the Military. Craig first served within the infantry, then grew to become a helicopter mechanic, and is now a part of the Military Cavalry Unit. He’s been stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the U.S.

 “Veterans Day is a day to honor the entire women and men who shield our rights each right here and on international soil,” Tammy stated. “Some give their lives, however all are affected indirectly. They need to be honored.”
