‘It is an error’, NCC withdraws press assertion on Starlink

The Nigerian Communications Fee has withdrawn its not too long ago issued press assertion relating to the operations of Starlink, a satellite tv for pc web service supplier.

In a short message addressed to media retailers on Tuesday, the NCC acknowledged that the assertion was launched in error, urging editors and journalists to retract any associated publications.

“Kindly notice that this press assertion on Starlink was issued in error. It’s hereby WITHDRAWN. If already revealed, kindly BRING DOWN,” the message, signed by the NCC’s Supervisor of Media Relations, Kunle Azeez, said.

The fee’s  Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, had introduced plans to take enforcement measures in opposition to  Starlink, for elevating its subscription costs in Nigeria with out the regulator’s approval.

In a message despatched to its prospects final week, Starlink stated the value hike would have an effect on each current and new prospects.

The month-to-month subscription charge was elevated by 97%, from N38,000 to N75,000.

Moreover, new customers will face the next price for the Starlink package (the {hardware} wanted for set up), which is now priced at N590,000, up 34% from the earlier value of N440,000.

Nevertheless, the NCC said that it had not authorized the value enhance.

“The choice by Starlink to unilaterally evaluate its subscription packages upwards didn’t obtain the approval of the Nigerian Communications Fee,” Muoka stated.

He defined that the fee was “shocked” when the corporate introduced the value adjustments, regardless of having filed a request with the NCC for a value adjustment, which the regulator had but to approve.
