Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, exercised his civic responsibility by casting his vote in the ongoing governorship election in Anambra State.
Obi arrived at Polling Unit 019, Umudim Akasi, Agulu Ward 8, Anaocha Local Government Area, where he joined residents to participate peacefully in the democratic exercise.
Security operatives were positioned across the area to ensure safety as voters turned out early to decide the state’s next governor.
Obi preaches peace and credibility in the poll
Speaking to journalists shortly after voting, Obi urged citizens to remain peaceful and committed to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process.
He emphasised that elections are the foundation of good governance and appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold fairness and neutrality.
The former governor also called on political leaders to prioritise the interest of the people above personal ambitions, saying democracy thrives when the people’s will is respected.
Soludo, Ukachukwu, Moghalu, and 13 Others Contest for Anambra Governorship
A total of sixteen candidates are vying for the governorship seat in Anambra State, according to the final list released by INEC.
They include the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), George Nnadubem Moghalu (Labour Party), Jude Ezenwafor (PDP), Chioma Ifemeludike (AAC), and Ndidi Olieh (NRM).
Others are Charles Onyeze (Accord), Geoffrey Onyejegbu (NNPP), Paul Chukwuma (YPP), John Nwosu (ADC), Ifeanyi Iloghalu (ADP), Henry Nwachukwu (SDP), Chibuzor Onwuneme (APM), Francis Eke (ZLP), Nnamdi Umeh (PRP), and Godwin Udegbunam (AA).
The election as one of the most competitive in recent years, with many voters expressing optimism for a peaceful outcome.
