People are watching, and posterity will judge you… – Lawyer writes Wike over clash with military officer

AdminBy AdminNovember 13, 2025Updated:November 13, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Human rights lawyer, Oloye T.D Esq, has penned an open letter to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent confrontation with a naval officer, A.M Yarima.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Oloye cautioned the FCT Minister to exercise humility and compassion while in power.

He reminded him that, “History is watching. The people are watching. And posterity will judge you not by the power you held, but by the humanity you showed while holding it.”

Lawyer Urges Wike to Reflect on Leadership Conduct

In the open letter titled “A Call for Reflection, Restraint, and Respect for the People,” Oloye expressed concern about the minister’s leadership style. He noted that recent actions and utterances by Wike had raised public concern about his approach to governance.

“Leadership is a privilege, not a weapon. It is a call to serve, not to subdue,” he wrote. “When a leader begins to use power to intimidate, silence, or oppress, the very essence of democracy is threatened.”

The lawyer further urged Wike to embrace humility and dialogue rather than confrontation, warning that the use of fear and intimidation erodes trust between leaders and citizens.

He concluded his message by appealing to the minister to “calm down, reflect, and remember the sacred duty to serve with fairness, equity, and justice.”
