Arsenal supporters have reacted angrily after new information surfaced about Gabriel Magalhães’ injury during Brazil’s friendly against Senegal on Saturday.
The centre-back was forced off in the 64th minute, holding his adductor, and is now unlikely to feature in next Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed regret after the match, acknowledging the defender’s discomfort and confirming a medical assessment would follow. “He had an injury in his adductor… we are really sorry for this,” he said.

Fitness concerns existed before kick-off
What has intensified frustration among Arsenal fans is the revelation that Gabriel was already a fitness concern before the match.
Sky Sports reporter Natalie Gedra confirmed the defender trained separately during Brazil’s final session at the Emirates, as staff attempted to reduce his workload due to the high volume of minutes he has played this season.
Supporters questioned why a player with a recent history of muscle injuries, including last season’s serious hamstring setback, was risked in a friendly match.
Supporters slam Brazil’s decision
Fan reaction online was quick and critical.
One supporter wrote on X: “Thankfully Arsenal have Piero Hincapié ready to step up, but the fact Gabriel picked up this injury in a meaningless friendly, after training alone due to load management, is infuriating.”
Another added: “Absolutely insane that he played the game. Completely irresponsible from everyone involved.”
Arsenal assessing defensive options
Arsenal may also be without Riccardo Calafiori, who withdrew from Italy’s squad. However, reports indicate he could still recover in time for the derby.
The club’s summer signings, Hincapié and Spanish U21 defender Cristhian Mosquera, provide cover, with Mosquera impressing early in his Premier League adaptation.
