"The really damning thing for me' – Graeme Souness opens up Mo Salah saga at Liverpool

AdminBy AdminDecember 8, 2025Updated:December 8, 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has criticised Mohamed Salah for his actions at the club.

The Liverpool attacker has claimed in the media that he has no relationship with manager Arne Slot at the club.

With Slot repeatedling dropping Salah from the squad, the Egyptian attacker has now confirmed that he does not get along well with the Dutch manager.

It is a huge change from last season when both Slot and Salah worked brilliantly together to deliver the Premier League title for the Merseyside club.

But with Liverpool losing form this season, struggling to keep up with clubs around them in the league, new signings failing to settle at the club and experienced players like Salah and Virgil Van Dijk finding it difficult to show consistency, the club has suffered a lot this season.

Critcism has increased even more due to their heavy spending in the summer transfer window.

With players like Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz at the club, they have all found it difficult to play their best football under Slot.

Graeme Souness has criticised Mohamed Salah

Souness feels that Salah should not be behaving like this and that his attitude could have a bad affect on the rest of the players at the club.

“The really damning thing for me was when he said he doesn’t have to turn up every day and fight for his place in training because of what he’s done for the club,” Souness said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

“I’ll throw this at you, as a manager you’ve always got half a dozen players that are not quite with you because they feel they should be starting every week.

“So he turns up, the star man turns up and they’re not at it in training. It’s an excuse for those five or six that are not quite with you to do the exact same thing.

“He should be setting the standards, there was a responsibility as a senior player.

“You must have good senior players at your football club, they have to take the responsibility of setting the standards for every single day in training.

“We had a guy called Phil Neal who would go to war every single day in training, he could fall out on him quite easily. Every single day in training, you’re led from the front every single day in training. That’s what he has to get back to.”

Salah is one of the oldest and experienced player in the squad and it is surprising to see him behave like that.

However, there must be going on behind the scenes that he is not happy about and he felt the need to express himself openly in the media.

Through his career at Anfield, he has been a thorough professional and has always given his best for the club.

He is a large season why they have won two Premier League titles and a Champions League title in the last six years.

“He’s playing for a football club that is an institution,” Souness said.

“He’s disrespecting first of all his teammates, he’s disrespecting the supporters, that football club and all the great things that that club has achieved in its history.”

Souness recognises that Salah is a star but he also suggests that no player is bigger than the club.

The Salah saga is going to cause a disruptive effect to the squad and their ambitions this season.

Latest reports have suggested that the Reds are set to drop him from their match against Inter MIlan in the Champions League this week.
