Church sermon changed my mind – Akpabio withdraws lawsuits against Natasha, others

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has announced a surprising decision to withdraw all pending court cases against Senator Natasha Akpoti and other individuals who allegedly defamed him.

The announcement came during a New Year church service in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the service held at Sacred Heart Parish, Akpabio revealed that he had instituted nearly nine lawsuits against individuals he accused of lying, defaming, and slandering his name.

However, according to him, everything changed while he was listening to the priest’s sermon.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and slandered my name. But as I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised he was speaking to me,” Akpabio said.

Moved by the message, the Senate President said he decided to let go and forgive, choosing peace over prolonged legal battles.

He then publicly directed his lawyers to discontinue all the cases.

“Therefore, I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” he added

Akpabio’s decision has sparked conversations across political and social circles, with many describing it as a rare moment of reflection and restraint in Nigerian politics.

Whether this move will cool tensions or raise new questions, one thing is clear the Senate President has chosen forgiveness over the courtroom.
