Jonathan David Carley, 64, was charged with wearing uniform or dress bearing the mark of His Majesty’s forces without permission.
The retired history teacher dressed in a Rear Admiral’s uniform with a dozen gongs pinned to his chest – including an MBE, a DSO, and four campaign medals.
Carley also wore a QVRM, which can only be won by reservists after a decade or so of exemplary service.
The Walter Mitty was arrested shortly after the wreath-laying ceremony in Llandudno,Wales, when concerns were raised.
When police arrived at his home to detain him, Carley told police: “I’ve been expecting you.”
In his custody interview, he told officers he wanted a sense of “belonging and affirmation”.
Carley appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court today where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was fined £500 and ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and a £200 surcharge.
District Judge Gwyn Jones said: “It’s a sad reflection upon you that you chose to do such a thing on a very difficult day for so many.”
It is an offence under the Uniform Act to wear a military uniform without the monarch’s permission, unless you are performing on stage.
The Sun previously revealed how Carley had blagged his way into the event on Remembrance Sunday.
He was seen walking in formation to the war memorial before a wreath was laid by another individual.
Brazen Carley then saluted the memorial in his full regalia before marching off.
Jams Neary, prosecuting, said Carley wore medals – including for service in Iraq and Syria – and approached organisers to introduce himself.
He said: “The defendant was allowed to lay a wreath. He did so, he saluted and stood among other dignitaries.”
It is believed Carley‘s only known brush with military service was a stint in the combined cadet force when he taught at Cheltenham and Shiplake Colleges.
Public records in theLondonGazette show he was commissioned into the reserves as a 2nd Lt (on Probation), the lowest officer rank, in July 1991.
His reserve commission was terminated just four and a half years later, in Feb 1995.
He had claimed to have studied atOxfordUniversity and Harvard before teaching atEton College, where Princes William and Harry,Boris JohnsonandDavid Cameronwere all pupils.
