Fuji singer Osupa reacts as Islamic cleric claims hell die on January 10

A leading Nigerian Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, has reacted publicly after a controversial Islamic cleric, Al-Waraqi Olopameta, sparked nationwide outrage by predicting his death.

The issue began when a video circulated online showing Olopameta claiming that Osupa would die on January 10, 2026, which he described as a divine revelation.

Viral prophecy sparks backlash

In the video, the cleric insisted that God revealed the singer’s death to him. He swore by the Qur’an and his own life to support the claim.

Olopameta further said he admired Saheed Osupa as a fan. He alleged that the singer could only avoid death by carrying out a ritual sacrifice.

According to him, Osupa was instructed to kill a white ram, attach his name to it, and present it as a sacrifice to avert the predicted fate.

Scholars and Nigerians react

The claim immediately triggered strong condemnation from Nigerians across social media. Many described the statement as dangerous and irresponsible.

The controversy deepened after an audio recording surfaced involving Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Ishola Olanrewaju Alfulany. The respected Islamic scholar openly challenged Olopameta.

In the recording, Alfulany warned that the cleric could face arrest and imprisonment. He also accused him of misrepresenting Islam and spreading false teachings.

Cleric retracts claim amid pressure

Following intense criticism, Olopameta later admitted that the prophecy was not a divine message. He claimed the statement was a tactic to get Saheed Osupa’s attention.

Instead of easing public anger, the admission intensified reactions online. Many Nigerians demanded accountability for what they described as deliberate fear-mongering.

Another video later appeared showing Olopameta begging for forgiveness. He claimed he was hiding in a forest and sleeping on a banana tree due to fear for his safety.

Saheed Osupa breaks silence

Responding for the first time, Saheed Osupa strongly condemned the cleric’s actions. He warned Olopameta to stop calling death upon him and other entertainers.

The Fuji star described Olopameta as a fake cleric and completely distanced himself from the prophecy. He also issued a sharp warning, stating that he would not die as predicted.

Osupa added that Olopameta would die before him, stressing that reckless spiritual claims should not be tolerated.

The incident continues to generate debate, with many Nigerians calling for stricter measures against individuals who spread fear through false religious pronouncements.
