US delivers military supplies to Nigeria amid counter-insurgency operations

AdminBy AdminJanuary 14, 2026Updated:January 14, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria, reinforcing the country’s ongoing operations against insurgent groups and other security threats.

The supplies were handed over to Nigerian forces in Abuja as part of continued bilateral security cooperation, AFRICOM said in a post on X on Tuesday.

AFRICOM strengthens Nigeria’s counter-insurgency operations

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” the command stated, tagging the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, @USinNigeria.

While specifics of the equipment were not disclosed, the delivery forms part of wider collaboration between the U.S. and Nigeria, which includes intelligence support, logistics, and training for counterterrorism and stability operations across the country.

The move comes as Nigerian forces intensify operations against bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements, particularly in the north and northwestern regions. AFRICOM, a unified command of the U.S. Department of Defense, oversees U.S. military engagements and security partnerships across Africa, excluding Egypt.

Bilateral cooperation aims to boost intelligence and field support

The delivery follows a joint operation conducted by AFRICOM and Nigerian forces on Christmas Day in Sokoto State, reportedly resulting in the deaths of several terrorists. This underlines ongoing efforts to suppress insurgent networks and reinforce regional stability.

The U.S. and Nigerian governments have reiterated that strengthening security cooperation is essential to tackling cross-border threats and protecting civilians, highlighting the strategic importance of continued military collaboration.
