UCL: Jesus double powers Arsenal past Inter Milan

AdminBy AdminJanuary 21, 2026Updated:January 21, 2026No Comments2 Mins Read

Arsenal continued their flawless Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Inter Milan, securing a landmark away win that confirmed a top-two finish in the league phase.

Gabriel Jesus was the standout performer, scoring twice as the Gunners extended their winning streak in the competition and underlined their growing credentials on the European stage.

The result guarantees Arsenal a direct route into the knockout phase and home advantage in the second leg, avoiding the February play-off round.

Early control sets the tone

Arsenal asserted control from the opening exchanges and were rewarded inside 10 minutes. Jesus reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, poking home from close range to give the visitors an early lead.

Inter responded with a spell of pressure and drew level through Petar Sucic, who is the fired a powerful strike past David Raya from the edge of the area after Nicolo Barella’s effort was blocked.

Despite the equaliser, Arsenal remained composed and continued to dominate territory and possession.

Set-piece strength delivers again

The Gunners regained the lead in the 31st minute through a familiar route. Bukayo Saka’s deep corner was headed back into danger by Leandro Trossard, allowing an unmarked Jesus to nod in his second of the night.

The goal highlighted Arsenal’s efficiency from dead-ball situations. Jesus’ header marked the club’s 19th goal from corners this season, the highest tally among Europe’s top five leagues.

Late strike seals statement win

Inter struggled to break Arsenal down after the interval, with Mikel Arteta’s side managing the game effectively.

Substitute Viktor Gyokeres put the result beyond doubt six minutes from time, curling a precise finish from the edge of the box.

The win capped a demanding run of away fixtures across competitions, during which Arsenal have remained unbeaten.

Arteta rotated his squad heavily in Milan, underlining the depth available as the season enters a decisive phase.

Jesus, making only his third start since returning from a long-term knee injury, ended a prolonged Champions League scoring drought with his brace, while Gyokeres added further attacking reassurance.

Arsenal now turn their focus to domestic action, facing Manchester United in the Premier League before concluding the Champions League league phase at home to Kairat.
