BROOKLYN Beckham cutting ties with his family is a haunting reminder of David’s fallout with his own dad – as history threatens to repeat itself.
Ted, 78, swore “never to forgive” his son when a public five-year fallout threatened to destroy their relationship forever.
Exactly 23 years ago, England captain David devastated his father by quitting Manchester United for Real Madrid without his knowledge.
The pair were on bad terms after the break-up of Ted’s 33-year marriage to David’s mum Sandra the previous year – and it took a tragic event to bring them back together.
An insider told The Sun: “History may be repeating itself. David Beckham famously fell out with his own father when he was younger, and reconciliation eventually came.
“I suspect David and Victoria are hoping for the same outcome here, but at the moment, that doesn’t appear to be on the horizon.

Just like David, Ted had been a doting dad to his kids – but they blamed him for the marriage breakdown.
Despite his father’s determination to see his son succeed on the pitch being a huge factor in David’s stellar football career, the pair went for years barely speaking.
Speaking after being banned from watching his son sign for his new club in 2003,Ted said: “I don’t know if I can repair my relationship with him.
“We’ve hardly spoken. My biggest upset was not being invited to his signing. I’m choked, really.
“I’ve been there since day one and that really upset me. I’ll never forgive him for that.”

Three years later, Ted’s biography – David Beckham: My Son – drove another nail in the coffin, with David fuming because he hadn’t been consulted about its content before it was released.
In it he admitted they had “drifted apart” – having lived totally different lives and didn’t understand each other anymore.
It came after David’s autobiography, Beckham: My World, published in 2001, that accused Ted of never being tender towards wife Sandra.
“He loves my mum but he’s never been affectionate to her in front of my two sisters and me. He’s quite hard-faced and can be sarcastic,” he wrote.
“He also gets fired up easily… The quality I like least in myself is my short temper. I think I get it from my dad.”

Their frosty relationship continued throughout the 2006 World Cup, when David sent his dad tickets but refused to meet up with him.
Their five-year feud finally ended in 2007 when Ted suffered a near-fatal heart attack aged 58.
Paramedics fought for three hours to save him and he was told he had “died” in the ambulance on the way to the hospitalbefore being rushed into surgery to unblock an artery.
David – who had just transferred to LA Galaxy – flew home from the States immediately and rushed to his dad’s bedside where he spent several hours.
The traumatic incident spurred both men to put their grievances behind them.
David paid off his dad’s mortgage and bought him a Jaguar,but he still had to work while his football legend son made his millions.
Although the health scare ultimately brought the father and son together again, David will be hoping his relationship with Brooklyn can be mended without this kind of tragedy.
A close friend of David toldThe Sun: “David and the family genuinely fear Brooklyn could be lost to them forever.
“The word ‘lost’, here, is especially poignant as it was the exact sentiment used when David fell out with his dad.
“Ted believed his son would never speak to him again, and he was heartbroken. It was an extremely tense few years, and devastated the whole family.”

Over the years since Ted’s heart attack, the father and son have managed to repair their relationship.
In 2021, David was Ted’s best man at his wedding to millionaire solicitor Hilary – who he met through their charity work for Army Veterans at Broughton House Veteran Care Village in 2019.
Meanwhile Brooklyn – who snubbed the event stay in the US – appears to have distanced himself from the Beckhams for good.
Brooklyn claimed he had no interest in reconciling with his family during his shock social media outburst on Monday night.
He said: “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety.
“For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief.
“My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation.
“All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
