Abdulrasheed Maina Biography

He was born and raised in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria, where he still lives now.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged the former pensions boss in 2015, and he was placed on the wanted list at the time.
Prior to his extradition from the Niger Republic last year, he was charged in court alongside his son, Faisal Maina, with money laundering. This was made possible through a coordinated effort by the Nigerian Police Force, the INTERPOL National Coordination Bureau in Abuja, and their Nigerien colleagues.
Abdulrasheed Maina Career
Before becoming Pension Director, Maina worked as an administrator for the Nigerian Customs Service, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the Prison Pension Office.
Maina was selected as Chairperson of the Pension Reform Task Team in 2011. The Federal Civil Service Commission removed Maina from his position. He was removed from his role as Chairman of PRTT.
However, he was compelled to resign from his position due to his involvement in procurement fraud while in office.
Abdulrasheed Maina Controversies
President Buhari removed Maina as Chairman of the PRTT. However, the PRTT’s acting Chairman was reinstated. He was said to have left the country or sought refuge.
In July 2015, the EFCC charged Maina, former Head of Service Steve Oronsaye, Osarenkhoe Afe, and Fredrick Hamilton B Global Services Limited with procurement fraud and purchasing under false pretence.
In November 2015, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) named Maina as a suspect in the alleged N2 billion Pensions Biometrics Scam. Maina is wanted for procurement fraud and false pretences.
After the Nigerian Senate issued an arrest warrant for Maina in 2015, he fled to Saudi Arabia. Premium Times reports that Maina was re-elected as chairman of the PRTT in 2017.
The Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau, confirmed Maina’s reinstatement but denied his role. He held the office of Head of Service accountable for such conduct.
After Maina fled bail and failed to appear in court in 2020, Ali Ndume, a serving senator, was imprisoned.

Abdulrasheed Maina is happily married to Laila Maina and has a kid named Faisal Maina. His son was also accused with fraud of 58 million naira and using accounts described as conduits for illicit transactions.
