A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025.
The ruling marks a major setback for factions within the party seeking to assert control.
The court restrained PDP officials, including Turaki—an ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party.
This effectively bars them from claiming leadership roles until a valid convention is conducted.
Caretaker Committee Retains Control
In the ruling, the court affirmed that the Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the only recognized National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.
This interim leadership, aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will continue to manage party affairs until a legally valid national convention is held.
The decision consolidates Wike’s influence within the opposition party, signalling a legal backing for the Abdulrahman–Anyanwu faction over rival groups.
Announcing the development on Social Media
Announcing the ruling on X (formerly Twitter), Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, wrote:
“BREAKING: Federal High Court in Ibadan has nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State on November 15, 2025.
“The court barred Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.
“The court also ruled that Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the only recognised NWC of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid National Convention.
“Na dem carry matter go court, na dem still lose.”
