The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the ruling party has started negotiating with the lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly on their bid to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda maintained that this was the reason why no one had heard about the brouhaha between the lawmakers and the governor, who has been at loggerheads with his political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

How lawmakers moved to impeach Fubara
The Rivers lawmakers, who are loyal to the immediate past governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wike, have made three attempts to impeach the governor, but the moves were thwarted by President Bola Tinubu.

In a fresh permutation, the lawmakers dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the APC, a footstep Governor Fubara did not hesitate to follow.
With the new move, the ruling party insisted that its governor could not be impeached.
Speaking on the move to resolve the crisis in Rivers, Professor Yilwatda maintained that there has been ongoing discussion through the APC internal mechanism to fix the leadership crisis in the party.
His statement reads in part:
“Are you hearing anything about the impeachment of Rivers State Governor Fubara again? We are discussing with the lawmakers because that is an internal party issue. That is why the APC is different from any other party; we have a lot of mechanisms for resolving our internal issues.”
