Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has triggered widespread reactions online after making bold remarks about tattoos during a recent live broadcast.
Speaking to his audience, the popular pastor argued that tattoos are supported by biblical scripture and should not be condemned among believers.
He cited Isaiah 49:16, which states, “Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; {O Zion} your walls are continually before Me.”
According to him, the verse symbolically shows that God bears tattoos.
Pastor Okonkwo explained that God has “indelibly imprinted” His people on the palms of His hands, describing it as a form of divine tattoo.
“God himself has tattooed you. Christ himself has tattooed you,” he said, maintaining that the scripture clearly supports his position.
He also dismissed arguments often drawn from the Book of Leviticus, saying they are frequently misunderstood and wrongly applied.
The pastor stressed that he would not teach what he does not fully understand, pointing to his age and long years in the Christian faith.
In addition, he referenced Revelation 19:16, which says, “And on His garment (robe) and on His thigh He has a name (title) inscribed, king of kings and lord of lords.”
He claimed the passage suggests that Jesus bears inscriptions.
Pastor Okonkwo urged believers not to hide their convictions out of fear of public opinion, encouraging them to stand firmly by their understanding of scripture.
