“Gunmen Kill Two Chinese Nationals, Officer in Abia”

Two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian police officer were killed in a deadly ambush by gunmen in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State on the evening of Friday, April 5, 2025.

According to a statement from the Abia State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the victims were part of a convoy heading to a company site in Agukwu-Amaya, a community in Ndundu, when the attackers struck.

The deceased have been identified as Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai—both Chinese expatriates—and Inspector Audu Saidu, one of the officers assigned to escort them. The assailants also reportedly seized Inspector Saidu’s service rifle during the attack.

Chinaka explained that the command received a distress call and swiftly launched a coordinated rescue operation involving the police, military, and other security agencies. The response led to the successful rescue of three other Chinese nationals, one of whom sustained injuries.

Another police officer, Inspector Uba Ahmed, was also rescued but suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Both the injured officer and the expatriate are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

On Saturday, tactical operatives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) visited the crime scene.

During continued operations, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday, who had been missing, was also located and rescued without injury, thanks to collaboration between security forces and members of the local community.

Chinaka emphasized that investigations are ongoing and vowed that those responsible for the attack would be apprehended and brought to justice.

She also conveyed the reassurance of the State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, who urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals.

The command provided emergency contact numbers for public use: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.
