Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has been officially declared the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election.

The results of the APC primary were announced by Governor Bassey Otu, the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee.

Ukachukwu secured a commanding victory, earning 1,455 votes, far surpassing his closest competitor, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, who garnered only 67 votes. Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo received 26 votes.

Reflecting on his win, Ukachukwu boldly declared, “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather.”

Despite Ukachukwu’s triumph, the primary was marred by several challenges. Originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, the event faced significant delays and logistical issues, frustrating party members and aspirants alike.

As the day progressed, three key aspirants—Paul Chukwuma, Obiora Okonkwo, and Chief Chukwuma Umeoji—announced their withdrawal, citing concerns over the lack of transparency in the process.

Additionally, reports emerged of violent disruptions at the venue, with thugs allegedly hired by one of the aspirants attacking delegates in an attempt to derail the primary, despite the presence of security personnel.

These incidents added to the already tense atmosphere surrounding the election process.
