Cop Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Man After Son’s Fight with Girlfriend
The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police officer accused of stabbing a man during a violent altercation at the victim’s residence in Ise-Ekiti.

The incident came to public attention after the victim’s daughter shared a series of emotional videos online, calling for justice and alleging that the attack stemmed from a personal dispute between her younger brother and a female classmate.
According to her, the classmate, who is reportedly the girlfriend of the officer, became upset after a disagreement with her brother and alerted her boyfriend, prompting an unprovoked visit to their home.
She explained that the officer — said to serve as an orderly to a local government chairman’s security detail — arrived at their home with another officer under the guise of making an arrest.
However, they didn’t find her younger brother at home. Instead, they encountered his elder sibling, who questioned their actions.
The situation escalated when the officers allegedly tried to arrest the older brother without explanation. During the confrontation, one of the officers reportedly pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the young man.
The victim, their father, intervened to defuse the situation but ended up getting stabbed in the stomach. He managed to block the blow with his hand, which was severely injured in the process.
The daughter also alleged that the officer responsible is widely known in the community for aggressive behavior but has remained on active duty due to his connections.
“He has a reputation, and everyone knows it. Just because he works with a chairman doesn’t mean he should be above the law,” she said.
Expressing frustration over the lack of immediate action, she criticized the perceived double standard in how officers are treated: “If this was a regular citizen, they’d already be in jail. But they’re protecting him because he wears a uniform.”
She called on President Bola Tinubu and the Commissioner of Police to step in, stating, “Nigeria is really failing us.
We need justice for my father. We need protection from those who are supposed to protect us.”
In response to the outcry, the spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest. He stated:
“The Ekiti State Police Command has noted a viral video where a young girl alleges her father was stabbed by a policeman during a dispute involving her brother and the policeman’s girlfriend. The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of CID to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation. The officer involved has been taken into custody and appropriate actions will follow.”
The command urged the public, especially the victim’s family, to remain calm and assured them that justice would be served.
