Explosion Kills 7, Injures Commuters in Borno
Seven people, including a commercial bus driver and his passengers, lost their lives on Saturday, April 12, when their vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road in Borno State.

The explosive, believed to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists, detonated as the bus was traveling through the dangerous and poorly maintained route, which runs through the notorious Sambisa Forest.
The victims were part of a military-escorted convoy transporting civilians from Damboa to Maiduguri. Several other commuters sustained various degrees of injuries in the blast and were rushed to a hospital in Maiduguri for urgent treatment.
The Maiduguri-Damboa road is a critical link between the capital and several local government areas in Southern Borno.
However, due to persistent attacks by Boko Haram over the years, it had remained closed to civilian traffic until it was reopened under Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration.
Travel on the road is now limited to twice-weekly military-escorted convoys, which include security sweeps for explosives before each trip.
Despite these precautions, Saturday’s tragedy highlights the ongoing danger posed by Boko Haram and the persistent security challenges in the region.
