Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community, Casualties Feared
Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Otobi community in the Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State, on Tuesday evening, April 15, 2025, leaving many feared dead and sparking mass displacement.

The lawmaker representing Otukpo-Akpa Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Kennedy Angbo, confirmed the incident during a phone call with Channels Television.
He said the assault began around 5:30 PM, and while the exact number of casualties remains unknown, numerous residents have fled their homes in panic.
Angbo, who is a native of the affected district, described the situation as dire and called for immediate intervention from security agencies.
A resident of the community, Edwin Emma, also recounted the terrifying ordeal, saying, “We are being attacked by herdsmen at Otobi community. My wife and children are fleeing as I speak. Please call for help.”
This marks the second attack on Otobi this month. The community, which hosts the Federal Ministry of Water Resources Multipurpose Dam, had recently suffered the killing of a security guard at the dam site.
As of the time of filing this report, the police have not issued an official statement on the attack.
